The Navy’s naval engineering track has been operating continuously since the late 1960s . Over the years, the track has undergone many organizational changes in order to provide a technological response to the changing vessels of the Navy Timelines and key periods of activity: 1. The 1960s to the 1990s: The golden age of the “Electronics Boarding School” Years of operation: From about 1968 to the mid-1995s. Historical context: Following the sinking of the destroyer “Eilat” (1967) and the entry of the new missile ships (STLs), the Navy urgently needed skilled personnel in radar, electronic warfare (EW) and communications systems. Activity model: The cadets lived in a closed military boarding school within the Navy’s military academy in Haifa. They studied in the mornings at leading vocational schools in Haifa (mainly at Basmat and Ort Bialik), and in the evenings and weekends they underwent military discipline, naval training and technological courses within the base.
