200th Field Artillery Regiment (200th Jewish Field Regiment RA) Established in the fall of 1944, and consisted of 3 batteries (604, 605, 606), from the personnel of the coastal artillery battery and the personnel of the anti-aircraft battery who were converted to field artillery. Also, a British unit transferred from Malta to complete the standards, a total of about 600 Jewish soldiers (among them Edmund de Rothschild, fifth generation of the British Rothschild dynasty, who established and commanded the 604th Gun Battery) and another 300 British soldiers, with 24 25-pounder field guns.<\/span><\/span> After landing in Italy, the regiment underwent formation and consolidation training near the city of Forli in Italy.<\/span><\/span> On March 25, 1945, it arrived at the front, in the Brisigalla area, where the Jewish Brigade headquarters was located.<\/span><\/span> From March 27 to April 15, 1945, the battalion assisted the IDF in the battles to defend the Sanyo River, providing cover during its crossing, striking targets deep inside the enemy, and crippling German fire sources. With the help of the artillery, patrols that became entangled deep inside the German zone were rescued. The battalion provided the brigade with the long arm to strike any German target that was discovered, stationary or moving, and in pursuit of fugitives. The battalion was disbanded on August 6, 1946, with the disbandment of the IDF.<\/span><\/span> Coastal Artillery Battery (Heavy Artillery) Head of the unit – as the head of the volunteering of the Jewish settlement in Israel.<\/span><\/span> 42 volunteers arrived in two groups, the first arrived on September 7, 1939, and in December they were joined by the second group.<\/span><\/span> The battery was intended to defend the coasts of Israel.<\/span><\/span> It was subordinate to the 14th Regiment of Coastal Artillery, headquartered at the “Stella Maris” Monastery on Mount Carmel, Haifa.<\/span><\/span> 14th Regiment Coast Battery, Royal Artillery It included: 7 6-inch Mark 2 coastal guns (approximately 155 mm, with a range of approximately 15 km) which were stationed: 3 on the Western Carmel, 2 at the Bat Galim camp (the “Ras El Krom” battery) and 2 at the Kishon Estuary.<\/span><\/span> In the fall of 1941, the battery had 7 6-inch anti-aircraft guns, which were placed: 3 – on the Carmel in Stella Maris, 2 – in Bat Galim and 2 on the shore of today’s Kiryat Yam, to protect the refineries. In addition: 2 6-pounder twin-barreled guns placed on the breakwater at the entrance to Haifa Port and another twin-barreled gun placed at the end of the breakwater near the wall of the Old City in Acre, to protect against naval attacks and six searchlights with a diameter of 90 cm, protected by twin-barreled “Lewis” anti-aircraft guns. The battery participated in the shooting and sinking of the Italian submarine “Shira”. Upon its disbandment in the summer of 1944, its fighters were transferred to the 200th Field Artillery Battalion, which was part of the Jewish Brigade (IDF).<\/span><\/span> Among those serving in this unit were: Yaakov Majdowski, later Lt. Col. Midd (MA 8001), Manos Fransky, later Col. Emanuel Prat (MA 8002), Yaakov Karlitz (MA 8003), Binyamin Pont (MA 8004), Yosef Shafransky Shaffer (MA 8005), Moshe Bar (MA 8006), Eliezer Hofenbertal, later Lt. Col. Dinai (MA 8007), Asher Neus (MA 8008), Shimon Stenger (MA 8009), Yosef Barish Beetz (MA 8010), Dov Chizi (MA 8011), Avraham (Adolf) Levenstein (MA 8012), Yaakov Eichel, later Lt. Col. Eshel, Moshe Balcher Baram,<\/span><\/span> Aaronson, Luba Eliav, later MK, Ahituv Yochelman, Yehoshua Berman, Danny Langer, Asher Bleicher, Avraham (Adolf) Weisberg, Yosef Wald, Moshe Weiner.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
