\nTowards the end of the second half of 1948, the first Air Force storage depot was moved from “Sharona” to Jaffa. The amount of items that accumulated in the depot, some from local production and some from purchases outside Israel, gave rise to the need to grow and expand. Therefore, it was decided to establish a “central depot” in Abu Kabir. Next to the new depot, an additional depot for equipment and rescue was established.<\/p>\n
On July 22, 1949, the director of the Air Force’s Storage Division, Eliyahu Rotenberg, decided to change the name of the central depot to the “Central Air Force Depot”. During this period, 84 soldiers and 56 civilians served in the central depot, which constituted 50 percent of the temporary standard set for the unit – 298 people.<\/p>\n
At the end of 1949, the Air Force depot was moved to Tzirifin and at the same time an organizational order was issued to establish Wing 18, called Camp “Eagle”. Following the move to Tzirifin, on 1.1.1950, the change in the nature of the “Central Air Force Depot” that was subordinate to the commander of Wing 18 (“Eagle” Camp) in Tzirifin was given effect. At this stage, the designation of the base was determined to be a technical supply base for the Air Force. With the publication of this order, the name of the central depot was determined to be “Squadron No. 201”. The commander of Squadron 201, who was subordinate to the commander of Wing 18, received all administrative and warehousing services from him. During this period, the activities of the central depot were managed in several warehouses, for example: Warehouse A, which was a warehouse for personal equipment, Warehouse B, which was a warehouse for camp equipment, Warehouse C, which was intended for office equipment, Warehouse F for tires, Warehouse G for engine parts, Warehouse H, hydraulic, and more.<\/p>\n
During this period, the registration method on cards was changed and equipment began to be shipped on demand to the wing depots and from there to the squadrons and workshops.<\/p>\n
A significant improvement in inventory management occurred with the introduction of NCR calculating machines, into which logistics data was entered using punched cards.
