The Gallipoli Star 1915 Ottoman War Medal was a gallantry decoration awarded by order of the Sultan on 1 March 1915. In the centre within the crescent is the cipher of Sultan Mehmet V and figures representing the words “The Victorious” .
Below this appears the Muslim date 1333 equivalent to 1915 in the Western Gregorian calander.
the star was awarded to officers and enlisted personnel , both the Ottoman army and navy, as well as military personnel from the Ottoman Empire’s allies, Austria – Hungary, Germany, and Bulgaria, were eligible
the medal had several variations from several types of metals and from different manufacturers.
Some versions were painted with red enamel and there are even versions that were made in a “higher” quality, handmade and silver. These versions were made by jewelers and were intended for private purchase by officers who were not willing to wear a mass-produced badge. <\/p>\n
