- An academic professional officer (KMA) is an IDF soldier with an academic degree who is assigned to a professional position, receiving an officer rank without an officer course (Bahd 1). The rank is given to reservists or academics who have been recruited and grants a status equivalent to a lieutenant (KMA) or captain (KAB), while committing to service in the profession. They wear a “flat coat” (academic) compared to the prominent coat of a regular officer.
